Alenia Aeronautica aims to develop its industrial partnerships to ensure that revenue is balanced 50/50 between civil and military markets to "smooth out the peaks and troughs" of the latter sector, says the company's senior vice-president strategies and business development Carlo Logli.

"Our strategy is to be a prime partner or supplier," says Logli. The company, already well integrated in production of the Boeing 787, is in discussions with Airbus about the production of the A350 XWB. "We are pressing for a partnership deal with Airbus on this programme," he adds.

But Alenia is eyeing a greater long-term prize, says Logli: "We want to be involved in the next-generation single-aisle models from Airbus and Boeing - a huge potential market that could amount to 10,000 aircraft."
