The European Space Agency (ESA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have renewed their co-operative agreement on the use of space technology. The deal will enable ISRO and ESA to work on programmes of common interest in space science and applications, including communication, remote sensing, meteorology, navigation, and materials processing. The relationship between the two organisations dates back to the launch of India's first experimental communications satellite, APPLE, in 1981 by a European Ariane booster. ISRO has also ratified an international charter on disasters that envisagesco-operation in the use of space resources for tackling natural or man-made disasters. ISRO is offering data from its IRS Earth observation satellites.
