INDIA IS BEING OFFERED defence equipment by Israel, including airborne early-warning technology based on the Phalcon. The two countries have also sealed a $50 million deal for the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Harpy anti-radiation drone.
The Harpy, as supplied to India, will consist of a mobile launcher carrying 16 2.5m-long delta-winged drones. The drone has a take-off weight of 100kg.
India has been struggling to develop indigenously an airborne early-warning (AEW) aircraft, as funding and technical problems have slowed progress.
Israel has also expressed interest in having an Indian air base available for staging Israeli air force aircraft. India is also evaluating a variant of the IAI Hunter unmanned air vehicle.
