Indian express freight carrier Blue Dart Express has posted a 22% fall in profit for 2009, but expects to expand as the industry recovers.

For the fiscal year ended 31 December 2009, the carrier's profit after tax fell 22% to 607 million rupees ($13.1 million) from a year ago, says Blue Dart.

Total operating income fell 7% to 9.8 billion rupees, it adds. The carrier handled more than 267,500t in 2009.

"With signs of a recovery in many industry verticals, the express industry is all set for new growth and expansion. Blue Dart is completely aligned to leverage [on] these growth opportunities," says managing director Anil Khanna.
