Indonesian state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II has no plans to involve private companies in the management of its airports and is developing new airports on its own.
"Law number one in year 2009, which allows Indonesian private companies to invest in and manage airports, based on the concession right given by the government, came into force on 12 January," says Angkasa Pura II head of legal affairs Yanuar Hani.
"As far as I know, at this time Angkasa Pura II has no intention to have private companies jointly manage some of its airports but local companies" have opportunities to invest in businesses related to the airport such as airport hotels and business centres, he says.
Angkasa Pura II manages 12 airports in the country while there is also another state-owned airport company called Angkasa Pura I that manages airports.
Hani says Angkasa Pura II is now building a new airport for the northern Sumatra city of Medan.
He also says it is planning to build a new passenger terminal at Pekanbaru's Sultan Syarif Kasim II, Pangkal Pinang's Depati Amir, Jambi's Sultan Thaha and Tanjung Pinang's Raja Haji Fisabilillah airports.
