Vying for the entertainment and communication prize will be Airbus with its Display-based Passenger Sign, PFW Aerospace with its Speaking Seatrail technological study - which looks at creating a communication system that complements the in-flight entertainment system - and The IMS Company with its RAVE embedded IFE system.
In the greener cabin, health and safety category, the nominees have been whittled down to three German companies: EIS Aircraft for its lightweight curtain header system, Elektro-Metall Export for its non-touch waste flap and Schroth Safety Products for its lightweight seatbelt.
Battling it out for industrial design/interior concept will be Acro Aircraft Seating with its lightweight narrowbody seats, Boeing with its 787 interior and Recaro with its new economy class seat. The materials and components award will go to either Heath Tecna for its patented aircraft wiring concept, Legett & Platt Automotive Group for its Fibre-so-Light upholstery material or Lufthansa Technik for its galley lights.
Contour, Mueller/Romca Industrial Design and Recaro have been short-listed for the passenger comfort award for the SpaceSeat, the Lufthansa A380 first class bathroom and the SkyCouch, respectively. In the university category, the competition will be between Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Dresden University of Technology and Munich University of Applied Sciences.
The judges commendation prize will go to either Airborne Hotel for its bi-level seating concept, Bishop for its flexible seat arrangement system or Thales for its Touch Passenger Media Unit.
