Unveiled at Aircraft Interiors Expo on stand 6E90, Pulsating Acoustic is Inseat Solutions' second generation of aircraft massage system.

It takes its name from an interactive mode in which it responds to low frequency audio from IFE systems through feedback movements. This enables a seat to massage to music or simulate a high-end cinema by allowing the chair to vibrate at certain points in a film.

Yet the biggest difference between the first and second generations of massage system, according to Kevin Hwang who is responsible for international sales for Inseat Solutions, is lighter motors meaning it can be installed in economy.

"It couldn't be done before because of weight, but now that's not an issue, we see this as a really big opportunity," says Hwang. He says that the new system is half the weight of its predecessor, "which is important for airlines with weight having become a big issue again".

Installed in economy cabins, the system uses one control box for three seats with two massage motors per seat. Hwang says that a typical business class configuration would use four motors for different massage zones, while the full system would have eight zones and would weigh around 2.5lbs (1.13kg).

"This will provide value to economy class for an airline that values its customer experience. It will bring back some of the pleasure of travelling," he says.
