Images from the scene of last week’s Iran Air Fokker 100 accident at Tehran Mehrabad Airport show that the aircraft’s left wing and fuselage surface were destroyed by fire.

The aircraft was a 17-year old example, registered EP-IDB, which was owned by the airline.

It suffered the accident while departing on a domestic service to Shiraz on 2 January. Images show that the aircraft came to rest on the underside of its fuselage with its left wing blazing fiercely.

Neither the nose-gear nor the main landing-gear are visible. It is unclear whether the undercarriage detached during the event.

The fire scorched and burned the left side of the fuselage across an area from the mid-point between the nose and the wing to a point just forward of the left-hand Rolls-Royce Tay 650 engine.

None of those on board the aircraft at the time are thought to have been injured. The circumstances of the accident, which took place in snowy conditions, are still unclear.
