Elbit Systems subsidiary Elop is negotiating with Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) over the formation of a joint electro-optics company. The venture would merge the capabilities of Elop (recently bought by Elbit) with those of IAI's Tamam division, with the aim of creating an entity better equipped to compete in domestic and international markets.

The talks are taking place despite rivalry between state-owned IAI and privately held Elbit over military fixed-wing and rotorcraft upgrades. IAI's Elta subsidiary has nevertheless supplied radars to Elbit on some upgrade projects.
