Europe's Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) and China's civil-aviation authority have signed a memorandum of understanding pledging gradual harmonisation of airworthiness standards. The JAA says that the first area to be covered will be "-regulations and procedures covered in Joint Aviation Requirement No 21, on the certification of aircraft and related products and parts". The JAA has welcomed the move as simplifying the eventual certification of the planned Airbus Industrie/ Aviation Industries of China AE31X regional-jet family.
