Japan Airlines (JAL) has agreed to serve the new Mt Fuji Shizuoka Airport when it opens in the spring of 2009.
Oneworld alliance member JAL says in a statement that from the new airport it will operate daily services to Fukuoka in Kyushu and thrice-daily services to Sapporo in Hokkaido.
The new airport is being built in Shizuoka prefecture in the central part of Japan. The area is known for agricultural and marine products and is where Mt Fuji is located.
Located between the cities of Shizuoka and Hamamatsu, the new airport is being built on a site area of 190Ha (470 acres) and it will have a 2,500m (8,200ft)-long runway.
