Japan's Ministry of Defense will acquire a single Eurocopter EC225 helicopter to replace an EC225 damaged in the tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011.
"(The ministry) had a fleet of three EC225s, but one of them was submerged during the earthquake and tsunami," said Eurocopter in a statement. "The procurement of the new 11-ton helicopter is meant as a replacement for the damaged aircraft."
The helicopter will be used in the passenger transportation role. It will be delivered in February 2015.
