Pilot unions predict "chaos" and the "possible loss of jobs for an untold number of pilots in Europe" as a result of the implementation of the pan-European standard for pilots licences (JAR-FCL) by the Joint Aviation Authorities July 1. The European Cockpit Association fears that some European aviation authorities are not ready a for it. Although welcoming harmonisation it wants the lack of "legal back-up" for the standard remedied by the incorporation of FCL into European Union law.
