Meet the men who talk you through the daily flying display - Nigel Stevens and Jean-Loup Cardey. It's their job to provide the running commentary on the flight presentation for 4h every afternoon.

More than 70 aircraft are expected to grace the sky above Le Bourget during air show week and around 300,000 visitors will be tilting their heads to take a look.

As commentators, it's up to Nigel and Jean-Loup to keep everybody informed as to what's going on - a role that took on extra importance at the weekend.

On Saturday, a $34 million Su-30 crashed into Le Bourget's airfield, just moments after the two Russian pilots had ejected to safety.

Vantage point

Nigel and Jean-Loup were the first to tell shocked spectators that the two pilots had actually managed to escape with their lives.

"We knew that everyone would naturally be concerned so we relayed the news."

"This is my fourth year of commentating at Paris and I love the job. I'm a private pilot and aviation is my passion."

Jean-Loup, a professional aviation journalist, says: "I have been commentating at air shows for the past 15 years and I never get tired of doing it.

"It takes us about a month to refine the text for each commentary. It's a responsible job because we are promoting each aircraft that takes to the sky.

"We always joke that it's nice to be able to talk to thousands of people about our favourite subject for four solid hours and they are not allowed to answer back."
