With the launch of its next-generation flight operations management system, Jeppesen, the world¹s leading publisher of aeronautical information, plans to streamline the control of company aircraft. A Unix-based application, OPS Controls (on display Hall 6, Stand C5) is aimed at enhancing operation support by allowing flight controllers to monitor more aircraft and multiple flights. "It offers financial benefits, but will also increase productivity and allow orderly and effective data management," says Albrecht Ortmann, director of Commercial Aviation Sales. "Before its introduction, we already had a range of four different flying tools to suit all needs. OPS Control will be best suited to mid-range airlines with 20 or more planes." The system provides users with the planning tools already synonymous with the company, such as JetPlan, MetPlan and PerfoMAX, as well as systems integration, 24-hour support and internet product delivery. "Running these applications together can deliver reduced delays and recovery times," he says. A new CD-Rom format that enables charts to be displayed on hand-held computers and laptops is also being promoted. "This approach is revolutionary as we¹ve referenced all the software so that the map is moveable and the aircraft can be seen in its precise location. Each user will receive an updated disk fortnightly."
