AAR and GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) have formed a joint venture, called AIMCO, to lease rotable parts to airlines. GECAS will provide the financing while AAR will manage the programme, which aims to save an airline money by allowing it to sell its active rotables inventory to the venture then lease it back or, alternatively, to lease, rather than buy, the initial parts provisioning for a new aircraft. The venture has already concluded three small leasing deals, but says it has the financial muscle, through GECAS, to take over any size of inventory. GE Engine Services is also part of the venture.
