KAMAN AEROSPACE WILL demonstrate the K-MAX commercial external-lift helicopter's ability to resupply US Navy warships under a $690,000 contract awarded by the Military Sealift Command. The 60-day demonstration, to be conducted from 29 August until 27 October, will test the feasibility of using commercially operated helicopters for vertical replenishment ("vertrep") of ships. Sikorsky Aircraft's rival bid involved an H-60 helicopter. McDonnell Douglas Helicopter/Westland reportedly proposed using the EH101.
