KD-Avia, the carrier based in Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave, has agreed to acquire 25 Airbus A319 aircraft to renew a fleet which entirely comprises Boeing 737-300 jets.
A KD-Avia official had told ATI, flightglobal.com's sister premium news site, yesterday at a European-Russian airlines event in Brussels that it was intending to place an order for 25 narrowbodies.
KD-Avia has signed a commitment to the aircraft at the ILA Berlin Air Show. No engine selection has yet been given, although the CFM International CFM56 is fitted to its 737 fleet.

“This aircraft meets all our requirements in terms of fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, and is the best solution for us,” says KD-Avia chairman Sergey Grishchenko.
No delivery dates have been disclosed, and the carrier has yet to indicate the extent to which the jets will replace its 16 leased 737s. KD-Avia intends to use the A319s to reinforce Kaliningrad’s position as a transit point for Russia.
