Kaman Aerospace is looking to the energy production sector to boost business for its K-Max heavy lift helicopter.

Kaman says K-Max lifted well-testing equipment and pipelines weighing up to 2,700kg (6,000lb) during a demonstration to the oil industry at OTC in Texas.

"K-Max has been used in Bolivia to construct a drilling rig and support drilling operations in a remote area inaccessible by road," says Steven Daniels, manager of commercial aircraft operations for the K-Max. "During the Bolivia project, the helicopter operated regularly in temperatures reaching 42°C (107°F) while transporting equipment weighing 2,700kg (6,000lb) over a mountain range more than 910m (3,000ft) high.
