Flight International Online news 9:30GMT: Kenya Airways has ordered one additional Boeing 777-200ER and has agreed to lease one additional Boeing 767-300ER.
Boeing says in a statement the African carrier will take delivery of its fourth 777-200ER in 2007. Kenya Airways placed its original three-aircraft 777-200ER order in 2002 with deliveries in 2004 and 2005.
Boeing says as part of the new 777-200ER order Kenya Airways also has taken an option on a fifth aircraft.
In addition to the three 777-200ERs, Kenya Airways now operates five 767s and 11 737s. Boeing says the carrier has agreed to take a sixth 767-300ER on lease for delivery in 2006.
Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni said earlier this year the carrier was planning to acquire one additional widebody and replace its 767 fleet by the end of the decade. In the Boeing statement, Naikuni says the carrier finds “the 777-200ER’s performance and economics perfectly suited to our business model”.
Earlier this year Kenya Airways also agreed to lease three 737-800s from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise to replace its three 737-200s in 2006. In addition to the 737-200s, Kenya Airways operates four 737-300s and four 737-700s, according to AvSoft’s ACAS database.
