Lufthansa Technik (LHT) Malta is updating the first class cabins of its parent airline's Airbus A340-600 fleet.
The Mediterranean facility, which focuses on base maintenance for Boeing 737, A320 family, A330 and A340 aircraft, has so far modified two A340-600s and is now working on the third.
Lufthansa's 24-strong A340-600 fleet is to be completed by 2015.
LHT Malta chief executive Stephan Drewes said the company wants to expand its business to "high-end" cabin modifications in combination with regular aircraft overhauls.
Installing the technically demanding premium seats and other cabin furniture is a complex task which requires "a lot of sensitivity and skill", according to Niels Dose, project manager cabin modification at the maintenance provider's headquarters in Hamburg.
Last year, LHT Malta undertook a cabin conversion for Etihad Airways, modified the interior of four A330s for Brussels Airlines, and participated in the installation of Lufthansa's new short- and medium-haul seats across its 737 and A320 family fleets.
