Lufthansa Technik has expanded its joint-venture composite repair facility with Beijing Kailan Aviation Technology in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Two new buildings with a total floor area of 16,000m² (172,000ft²) – comprising a 2,400m² workshop, warehouse and offices – have been added to the existing site.
The facility, which specialises in the repair of thrust reversers and other composite parts, has been expanded to also service avionic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and safety equipment. It will include ATEC 6 avionics test equipment and a large autoclave, the MRO group says.
While the warehouse should simplify the supply of spare parts to aircraft operators and other maintenance providers in the Asia-Pacific region, LHT also wants to station a mobile airline support team at the facility.
“We have built the basis for further growth,” says Bernd Riggers, chief executive of the subsidiary.
Lufthansa Technik Shenzen was set up in 2002, with 80% of the shares held by LHT and the rest by aircraft procurement and support specialist Beijing Kailan Aviation Technology.
The site has a staff of 330.
