Liberty Aerospace has received US Federal Aviation Administration certification for its two-seat XL2 piston single, following four years of development. First deliveries of the XL2, which has its roots in the Europa line of kit-built aircraft, are planned by the end of March, says the Melbourne, Florida-based company, leading to European approval within months. Liberty says orders for the $139,000 XL2, the first piston-powered aircraft to be certified with Teledyne Continental's full-authority digital engine control-equipped IOF-240 125hp (90kW) powerplant, totals 45 units. The company says it plans to deliver 60 aircraft this year, 220 next year and 340 units in 2006.
