Australia has selected the Northrop Grumman/Rafael Litening AT targeting and navigation pod for its air force Boeing F/A-18 Hornet fighters in a $100 million deal.

The delayed selection follows a competition between the Northrop/Rafael team and companies including Raytheon, which was offering its ATFLIR pod to meet the requirement (Flight International, 7-13 June).

Already in use with the Spanish air force and US Marine Corps and on offer to Canada, the 200kg (440lb) Litening AT pod is expected to enter squadron service with the Royal Australian Air Force in 2007.
