Lufthansa enjoyed another strong year in 2000, generating an operating profit of €1 billion ($935 million), up 44% on 1999's figure and surpassing even the German carrier's own estimates, which it raised part-way through the 12 months. The airline's pre-tax profit, after exceptionals, was €1.2 billion, down €251 million or 17% - largely, it says, because contributions from the Amadeus computer reservations systems were smaller than in the previous year.
