Lufthansa Technik and GE Aviation have signed a long-term material supply agreement covering the provision of spare parts and repairs on the CF6-80C2 and CF34 engines.
The two companies will also work together to develop maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities for the engine types.
GE and Lufthansa Technik will jointly develop component repairs and maintenance support through the deal, which will focus on the engines operated by Lufthansa Technik's MRO customers. This is the first deal of its kind between the two companies, however they have worked closely in the past. Lufthansa operates aircraft powered by CF34, CF6 and more recently, GEnx-2B engines.
More than 1,600 CF6-powered aircraft are still in service - or about two-thirds of all the CF6-powered aircraft ever produced - says GE. The CF34 is also on a substantial number of regional aircraft, with more than 5,600 engines in service.
