Lufthansa Technik is to establish an airframe component repair shop near Dubai World Central's Al Maktoum International airport.
The new site will be named Lufthansa Technik Middle East and comprise workshops to repair composite components such as wing flaps, radomes, thrust reversers and inlet cowls, says the Hamburg-headquartered MRO provider.
It will be located in the aviation district, Dubai South, adjacent to Dubai World Central.
The site's status as a Lufthansa Technik network subsidiary is intended to provide "independent and direct access to customers in the region", which the group describes as "one of the most important MRO markets worldwide".
Lufthansa Technik has had a composite repair shop at Dubai International airport for several years. This was originally established to serve customers on an ad-hoc basis, with staff from Germany. Other capabilities such as engine washing have since been added, and the facility is to remain operational.
The new site will have offices to provide local AOG support and manage material supplies.
Lufthansa Technik's sales director for Africa and the Middle East, Richard Haas, says the expansion of services and the reorganisation as a group subsidiary were "essential prerequisites" for building a "sustainable presence" in the region.
Group strategy is to boost third-party business through greater engagement in growth regions.
Aside from supporting airlines, Lufthansa Technik has conducted VIP completions for customers in the Middle East.
