This afternoon's signing of a contract by Lufthansa Technik and Royal Brunei Airlines to extend their engine maintenance relationship is the latest development in a successful year in Asia-Pacific for Europe's leading MRO company.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) has just deployed a second modern dock in its hangar at Manila airport to support its established A330/A340 D-check operation.

The new facility allows LTP to perform two A330/A340 checks simultaneously.

The company is currently performing its 10th and 11th checks since launch of the operation last year. Current customers are Philippine Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa.

"Having built a record for short downtimes and Lufthansa quality in 2003, our team is ready to extend this performance to a larger customer base this year," says LTP chief executive Andreas Heizner. The new facility is also expected to allow LTP to broaden its offering to include C and other checks.

Elsewhere in the region, Lufthansa Technik parent company Deutsche Lufthansa is currently negotiating to extend its Ameco Beijing joint venture with Air China.

Ameco is China's leading provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services. Located at Beijing Airport, it serves domestic as well as international customers.

Reflecting its growing presence in the region, Lufthansa Technik is stepping up its marketing efforts. In addition to its established representation in Singapore, China, Taiwan and Japan, the company will open a Hong Kong office in April.
