India’s Kingfisher Airlines has contracted Lufthansa Technik to provide technical support for its entire fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft.
Under an agreement announced yesterday the Hamburg-based company will extend its support of Kingfisher’s A320s beyond the 17 aircraft covered by its original contract from the carrier.
Over the next ten years Lufthansa Technik will provide its total component support at the carrier’s Mumbai hub.
LHT Indian subsidiary One Stop Airline MRO Support will set up a regional component pool to support existing and future Indian customers.
Lufthansa Technik is to supply total engine support for the Kingfisher A320s’ IAE V2500-A5 engines under a ten-year, power-by-the-hour contract that also covers access to spare engines when required. And it will provide airframe related component services, covering composite structures like inlet cowls and thrust-reversers. One Stop Airline MRO Support will maintain a stock of composite components in India. Lufthansa Technik’s expanding Indian presence also includes total component support for the 60-aircraft A320 fleet of Air Deccan, the country’s first low-cost carrier, and total component support for the Airbus A340 and Boeing 737 fleets of Jet Airways. Along with local company GMR, the company plans to set up Lufthansa Technik India to provide base maintenance services.
