M7 Aerospace has received a US FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) to convert ATR 72 turboprops into freighters. The San Antonio, Texas-based firm already holds an STC for passenger-to-freighter conversions of ATR 42 turboprops, and has completed 30 such conversions for a customer. This modification includes strengthening of the floor structure, modifying the doors to facilitate loading of cargo, strengthening the door surrounds to prevent damage during loading, and installing an enhanced smoke detection system.
