Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has contracted Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance to service its CFM International CFM56-powered Airbus A320s.
The carrier signed an exclusive, long-term MRO agreement for the aircraft’s CFM56-5B engines with the Franco-Dutch maintenance group.
MAI operates eight A319s and A320s, although three of the aircraft are equipped with International Aero Engines V2500 powerplants, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows.
The deal is a follow-up to a component support agreement the airline arranged for its A320 fleet with Air France-KLM’s maintenance arm in July 2012.
Fabrice Defrance, senior vice-president commercial at AFI KLM E&M, says the MRO group has built a “close business relationship” with the airline and its owner, Myanmar’s Kanbawza Bank (KBZ).
The private financial group owns 80% of the airline and plans to acquire the remaining shares too, says the maintenance provider.
The banking group also owns domestic airline Air KBZ.
