Some maintenance providers attending the conference complained they may be "squeezed out" of the market by Boeing's GoldCare turnkey maintenance programme. There were also suggestions that some suppliers are making it difficult for providers to directly offer airlines maintenance solutions on the 787 because charges for manuals are exorbitant. As a result, these providers have decided they will only repair certain 787 components on a sub-contract basis via the OEM.

But Boeing Commercial Aviation Services integrated materials management director Joe Brummit claims GoldCare will not prevent third-party companies from competing against the OEMs. "I feel there is more than enough opportunity to play," he says.
