Malaysia and the USA have signed a bilateral airworthiness agreement and are now working towards US acceptance of Malaysian certification standards for the locally produced SME Aviation MD3-160 light aircraft. Approval will require a final technical assessment to be made in September or October, and would clear the way for exports of the all-metal two-seater to the USA. The Swiss-designed MD3-160 already has US type-certification.
