-International Aero Engines (IAE) has confirmed that it has won a $2.3 billion engine order from TACA, LanChile and TAM Brazil to power the 88 aircraft under firm order and 87 on option for the Airbus A320 family. TACA has orders and options for 60 aircraft, LanChile for 40 and TAM Brazil for 75.

-Air Pacific will take two of the three Next Generation Boeing 737s it has on order as the -800, rather than the -700 previously specified. The third aircraft will remain as a -700.

-Air Caribbean will introduce an ex-Southwest Airlines 737-200Adv in June on services to Miami. The aircraft joins the airline's fleet of NAMC YS-11 turboprops.

-THY Turkish Airlines has ordered two more Airbus A340-300s for delivery in early 1999 and early 2000, increasing its orders to seven.

-Royal Air Maroc has converted orders for two 737-800s to the smaller -700.

-American Trans Air is acquiring Royal Jordanian's fleet of five Lockheed L-1011 TriStar 500s plus spares. The aircraft will be introduced over the next 18 months.

-America West Airlines has signed a lease deal for two more Airbus A320s from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise, bringing its contract with the lessor to five aircraft. All the leases have 10-year terms.

-Continental Airlines has switched four orders for the 767-400ER to the 777-200ER, changing its backlog of 26 and 14 aircraft, respectively. Both types are powered by General Electric engines.

-Southern Winds is boosting its Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet fleet with the addition of four ex-Lufthansa CityLine aircraft leased from Lufthansa Leasing via Bombardier.

-TWA will phase out 24 Boeing 727-200Adv as new Boeing MD-83s are delivered between May and December 1999 to meet Stage 3 noise requirements. As part of the fleet roll-over, 15 727s have been sold and leased back to unnamed companies.
