MD Helicopters (MDHI) has sold a twin-engined MD Explorer to Japan's Asahi Shinbun Press. The single-pilot instrument flight rules-certificated helicopter, equipped with a global positioning system, traffic collision avoidance system, e-mail and data fax facilities, will be delivered to Japan's second largest newspaper later this year. Mesa, Arizona-based MDHI has also clinched a deal with Dutch Internet company Freedom Explorer for delivery of a $2.5 million Explorer. The corporate configured aircraft is due for delivery next year.
