Meggitt of the UK has bought two US aerospace component manufacturers for $45 million in cash, potentially boosting sales by $49 million and strengthening its presence in the US military market. The companies are Western Design Howden of California, which produces ammunition handling and environmental control systems for air and ground use, and Airdynamics, also of California, which produces pumps and compressors. Both Californian companies were formerly owned by the UK group Charter. North America already accounts for 51% of Meggitt's sales, with much of this coming from military customers.
