If you want to see some magic, visit Meggitt (Stand J13 Hall 2). The company is displaying its new MAGIC (Meggitt Avionics new Generation Integrated Cockpit) after securing Piper as launch customer.

A complete MAGIC system consists of a primary flight display (PFD), navigation display (ND) and air data, attitude, heading reference system (ADAHRS) and engine instrument display system (EIDS).

MAGIC is a suite of displays and sensor systems using colour active matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs) and solid-state sensors.

It is lightweight and cost-effective and built to withstand the rigors of general aviation aircraft applications.

Certificated

More than 100 systems have been supplied since the system was certificated last year.

"The first new aircraft to be outfitted with dual MAGIC is the Piper Meridian single engine turboprop," says Chris Butler, Meggitt Avionics marketing manager.

"In the Meridian, the MAGIC system is integrated with a System 550 autopilot and flight control system manufactured by S-TEC, another member of the Meggitt Aerospace Systems Division. This gives the pilot excellent situational awareness and full function flight control, including GPSS (Global Positioning System Steering)," says Butler.

GPSS offers totally automatic GPS navigation tracking by coupling the autopilot directly to the GPS Navigator for roll commands.
