Merger plans

RSK MiG and the Sokol aircraft production plant have taken the first steps towards a merger. They have signed a memorandum of understanding, with details to be drawn up by the end of the year. MiG general director Valery Toryanin is asking the government to postpone privatisation to 2008, "in view of the difficult economic situation" at RSK MiG and "the need to fulfil some important export contracts".
