Czech Aircraft Works (CZAW) has flown its first production-conforming Mermaid amphibian for the first time. The two-seat Rotax 912ULS-powered Mermaid is the first amphibian to be designed to comply with the US Federal Aviation Administration's new light-sport aircraft rules. Chip Erwin, CZAW president, says: "We took the time to flight test properly, and then refine and optimise the design." First deliveries are due next quarter.
