Lufthansa Technik  (C503), the German provider for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, and the Mexmil Company of Santa Ana, California, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to license to Mexmil  Lufthansa Technik’s patented enhanced cabin acoustic insulation system for commercial and VIP aircraft.

The enhanced insulation system provides a dramatically improved environment and flying experience for passengers. Interest in providing a quieter cabin has been fuelled by the significant investment of airlines, specifically in premium cabins, in advance of more sophisticated in-flight entertainment systems and ‘living space’ seating.
Additionally, the product has been certified to the most advanced fire worthiness standard, FAR 25.856(a), providing value beyond the original intent of the noise reduction for the cabin.
“We have been developing this enhanced acoustic noise reduction insulation system in our acoustic laboratory for over two years,” says Dr Claus Bauer, vice-president completion centre of Lufthansa Technik, “with Mexmil providing substantial consultation during the technical development.
“The result has been the development of a superior value, sound barrier system that has been proved, not just in the laboratory but in operation on large VIP aircraft installations.
“We have decided to partner with Mexmil for the exclusive manufacture of the system as the Californian company provides superior capabilities and support infrastructure and will be responsible for the marketing of the system also. The system will be offered immediately following the finalisation of a commercial agreement between both companies, which is expected by the end of this year.”

The Mexmil Company is the world’s largest manufacture of commercial aviation insulation systems. Lufthansa Technik services range from individual design and completion of aircraft cabins, through the provision of technical services and operational support worldwide, to the development of new hi-tech components for cabin management and in-flight entertainment.
Lufthansa Technik provides an all-round service for operators of private, corporate and government-operated aircraft. In addition to business and corporate jets, plus large transport aircraft made by both Airbus and Boeing, the service also extends to smaller corporate jets, and now also the new Airbus A380.
