Australian investigators have convened a meeting of organisations involved in the hunt for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to re-examine the assumptions on which the search has been based.
The ‘first principles review’ is being held in Canberra over 2-4 November.
Representatives of the search strategy working group, and various advisers and specialists, will discuss the inquiry’s status, close to 1,000 days since the Boeing 777 disappeared.
“They will review the results of the search undertaken to date and all of the available data, associated analysis, assumptions and modelling which have informed the definition of the search area,” says the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
It says the review might assist operations in the remaining search area. Around 10,000km² of the overall 120,000km² search zone has yet to be explored.
Investigators are holding the review as a newly-released analysis indicates that the 777 had been configured for cruise flight and was travelling with a high rate of descent at the time it vanished in the southern Indian Ocean.
