One of the vessels involved in the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is to be withdrawn from the search.
The Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre, which is overseeing the search for the Boeing 777 in the Indian Ocean, says that the supply vessel GO Phoenix ceased search operations on 20 June.
It is en route to Singapore and, upon arrival, will be “demobilised from search activities”, the centre adds.
Two other vessels – the Fugro Discovery and Fugro Equator – have left the scene for resupply in Fremantle.
The vessels have undergone “winterisation”, says the centre, to allow them to carry on the search during the southern hemisphere’s winter months.
Over 50,000km2 of the original 60,000km2 search zone has been examined but plans are in place to extend the hunt to 120,000km2 if the aircraft’s wreckage is not located.
