Winner of the Military Aviation award was Bell Helicopter Textron and Boeing. Together, they completed the engineering and manufacturing development of the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor in the face of considerable technical and funding difficulties.

The awards' panel felt that Bell and Boeing had displayed an outstanding achievement in keeping the V-22 programme going in the face of these problems.

Delivery of the first V-22 to the US Marine Corps in May this year was the first of 360 to be produced.

Finalists in this category were Boeing and British Aerospace.

Boeing was recognised for fielding of the first certificated AH-64D Apache Longbow combat battalion and BAe's successful demonstration of the BROACH multiple warhead system was also given praise.
