Monarch Aircraft Engineering is to maintain Norwegian’s Boeing 787s under the airframer’s GoldCare aftermarket support programme.
The UK maintenance specialist will service the aircraft at its line maintenance facility at Gatwick airport. Norwegian is scheduled to begin its 787 operations at London’s second hub in the second quarter of 2014. The airline will initially operate four Dreamliners on short-haul routes, Monarch Aircraft Engineering says.
The Luton-headquartered maintenance provider is a partner in Boeing’s GoldCare programme, and services the 787s of UK leisure carrier Thomson Airways through the scheme.
Independently from the manufacturer, the MRO provider has also won a 787 support deal from Polish flag carrier LOT.
Norwegian opted in 2012 to handle both line and base maintenance for the new type through GoldCare.
The Oslo-based budget carrier is operating three Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-powered 787s, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows. The airline has orders for seven 787-8s and two 787-9s.
