Avionics manufacturers unveiled a variety of new products at this year's US Aircraft Electronics Association convention, which highlighted the continuing trend of the transfer of airliner avionics capabilities to general aviation cockpits.

Garmin International announced four new products at the show, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from 12-15 May:

• NavTalk Pilot, which combines an analogue cellular phone and pager with a hand-held global positioning system (GPS) navigator and moving-map display. When available later this year, the $3,000 NavTalk Pilot will work with Garmin partner AirCell's aviation cellphone ground stations and any ground-based cellular provider;

• two GPS navigators based on the GNS 430 GPS/ communication/navigation system;

• the GTX 327 transponder with altitude-alert function and a digital display showing pressure altitude.

AlliedSignal showed its KMD 150 multifunction display, a derivative of the Skyforce Skymap IIIC portable moving-map GPS receiver. Avidyne added new traffic and radar capabilities to its multifunction display.
