Moscow Domodedovo Airport's operator, Eastline Group, has outlined a plan for further infrastructure improvements to expand its throughput capacity.

Airport director Vyacheslav Nekrasov says Eastline has earmarked Rb97 billion ($3.2 billion) for building a new passenger terminal with a dedicated pier and parking garage by 2015.

"The completed vision of the facility is designed to process up to 36 million passengers a year," he says, expecting Domodedovo's throughput to grow 20% to 22.4 million this year.

Construction work is to be funded from Eastline's internal resources and through co-financing arrangements with the interested parties. The airport development programme also envisages building an underground rail station, to switch from an above-ground station, and a third runway.

Eastline is discussing options to finance these projects with the high-speed rail operator Aeroexpress and Russian transportation ministry respectively. "In each case, the initial drafting and cost evaluation have been done," says Nekrasov. "We hope both projects will be completed prior to the new terminal."
