Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company (GAMECO) has begun construction of a third hangar located at its homebase Guangzhou Baiyun International airport.
To be built at a cost of CNY886 million ($128 million), the new 98,500sqm hangar is located north of the first hangar. It will be capable of handling up six widebodies and five narrowbodies for heavy maintenance simultaneously, and is scheduled to be completed in December 2021.
GAMECO says the new hangar will relieve the shortage of capacity it is facing, enable it to conduct more work for parent company China Southern Airlines, and support its plans to conduct passenger-to-freighter work.
"The completion of Phase III Hangar will further strengthen GAMECO’s market position and competitive advantage in aircraft maintenance industry," says chief executive Nobert Marx.
The first two of GAMECO's hangars began operations in August 2004 and November 2013 respectively.
