Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance has started servicing CFM International CFM56 engines for Tunisair.

The MRO provider says that late last year Tunisair signed a time-and-materials support agreement covering the CFM56-5A/B and -7B engines powering its Airbus A320-family jets and Boeing 737NGs, respectively.

Tunisair was seeking to contract two MROs for each engine type, but eventually opted to hand the entire work package to AFI KLM E&M, says the maintenance provider.

A CFM56-5A has been returned to service by an AFI KLM E&M team in Tunis, while two engines of the type have been transferred to the maintenance group's overhaul shop in Paris. A fourth -5A is on its way to that facility.

AFI KLM E&M says Tunisair operates 16 A320s, four A319s and seven 737NGs.

There is a "long history of trust-based relations" between the two parties, adds the MRO provider.
