Navigation solution provider Naverus designed and delivered a new required navigation performance (RNP) RNAV approach to Qantas in 22 days to allow the airline to operate at runway 16R at Sydney Kingsford Smith airport during maintenance of the instrument landing system. The new procedure, an overlay to the ILS approach, provided Qantas with additional flexibility, safety and reduced risk of delays during the maintenance, says Naverus. The US company has worked with Qantas on RNP procedures for airports in New Zealand and elsewhere in Australia.
