Garmin today unveiled a next generation integrated flightdeck for Part 23 turbine aircraft, the touchscreen-controlled G3000.
Along with three 14.1in (36cm) diagonal WXGA high-resolution wide-aspect ratio displays across the flightdeck, the G3000 will include a new central panel vehicle management system that is controlled by pilots via infrared-sensitive 5.7in diagonal touchscreens that control radios, audio, flight management, weather systems, synoptics, and other vehicle systems.
The GTC 570 vehicle management system also uses audio and visual feedback as well as animation "to help pilots know exactly how the system is responding to their input", says Garmin. The company expects to receive technical standard order certification for the system in the second half of 2011.
Along with features such as synthetic vision, flight charts and taxi safety routines already available in other Garmin products, the G3000 will also include a three-axis dual channel, fail passive digital auto flight system that features coupled wide area augmentation system (WAAS) approaches, vertical navigation, and flight level change.
Garmin is also working on a supplemental type certificate that will allow Cessna-owned Citation service centers to install G1000 integrated flightdecks on the Cessna CitationJet Model 525 series aircraft (serial numbers 0001-0359). The company expects to receive an STC for the upgrade in the second quarter of 2010.
"In 2003, we transformed the general aviation cockpit with the G1000, and now we're taking the next leap forward with the G3000," says Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice-president of marketing. "The G3000 is a testament to the culture of innovation that is fundamental to Garmin, and it promises to be one of the most intuitive and powerful flightdeck systems ever designed for Part 23 turbine aircraft."
